The Bully Barn: A Lesson For Bullies, Bystanders and Victims by Robert Gioia
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Nothing I say about this book will do it justice. I was expecting a cartoon short story but instead found myself in a barn with Marty. This is an excellent guide for parents and teachers on bullying. The author makes special effort in identifying the types of bullying and including a list of discussion questions at the end.
Emotional bullying is not something that many people acknowledge but Robert Gioia does and I think it is important for a children and adults to recognise this. In a society that is so dependent on getting things done instantly and thinking of yourself only, The Bully Barn needs to be introduced in schools.
A big thank you to the author for working on such a fabulous little book and for this quote that I will keep with me for a long time - “Words can hurt or heal. What did yours do today?”
Would I recommend this read? With every bone in my body. Teenagers, parents, schools, anyone who want more information on bullying, this is a MUST READ.
Overall assessment:
Content: 5/5
Editing: 4/5
Formatting: 4.5/5
Pacing: 4.5/5
Offensive content?: None, it is a bit wordy for a 6-year-old but older children can read this by themselves.
