Author Spotlight - April Bostic

What was the hardest part about writing this book?
The hardest part was writing about wolf behavior and pack hierarchy, and tying it into a human mind.

Did you learn anything from writing this book and what was it?
Writing paranormal romance is more fun than writing contemporary romance, because it stretches the limits of your imagination.

How do you promote this book?
Through online book tours, advertisements, updates on my author site, review queries to bloggers and book sites, and word-of-mouth.

Will you write others in this same genre?
No, The Howling Heart is my last novel.

Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?
Sometimes you have to take a chance on love.

How much of the book is realistic?
Not very much. It takes place in a world were werewolves and Norse gods exist. I think the most realistic aspects are the reactions from some of the human characters.

How important do you think villains are in a story?
Very important. They help balance the goodness and are effective in creating conflicts.

Can we expect any more books from you in the future?
My fourth short story, A Dark Scandal, will be released in e-book in December 2013.

Do you have any advice for writers?
If you write a story, and you’re passionate about it, don’t give up on it. See it through to the end, because you’ll feel so good about yourself when you do. It’s a major accomplishment to finish a story, whether it’s a short story, novella, or novel. Don’t get discouraged by negative readers or reviews. Remember for every person who doesn’t like your work, there will be someone who does. Writing, like all forms of art, is subjective, and not everyone is going to like your work. Be brave and put yourself out there. It takes a lot of courage to be a writer or author. Don’t be afraid, because you’ll realize it’s not so scary once you do it.

Do you have any specific last thoughts that you want to say to your readers?
I hope you decide to read The Howling Heart. I promise it will stir of a rollercoaster of emotions.

If you could leave your readers with one bit of wisdom, what would you want it to be?
Never be afraid to write. Even if you don’t think you’re no good at it. Try it, because the more you do it, the better you’ll get and the more confidence you’ll gain.
