Author Interview – Cinta García de la Rosa

How much sleep do you need to be your best?

If I manage to sleep around seven or eight hours every day, I feel 100% fine.

Is there anyone you’d like to acknowledge and thank for their support?

I would like to thank my boyfriend, Mark Stone, for being so understanding, supportive, and encouraging about my writing. I can be really difficult sometimes, but he seems to be the only one who knows how to handle my bitchy attacks. He makes me go on every day and I can’t thank him enough for that.

Tell us about your new book. What is it about and why did you write it?

My book, The Funny Adventures of Little Nani, is a children’s book that can also be enjoyed by people who call themselves grown-ups. Little Nani’s adventures are real fun and they transport you to a magical world where everything can be possible if you keep a positive attitude.

If you could have a dinner party and invite anyone dead or alive, who would you ask?

Jane Austen (her conversation would be really amazing), Tim Burton (I just love his films and it would be interesting to talk to him about his ideas), and Colin Firth (he is an amazing actor and I think his conversation must be quite interesting).

When you are not writing, how do you like to relax?

Watching movies or cooking.

What’s your favourite meal?

Breakfast, because I always wake up feeling very hungry.

What books did you love growing up?

The Wonderful Wizard of Oz and any other book that fell in my hands, really. I am quite a bookworm. This is the typical question that people answer by saying, “Harry Potter!” Don’t take me wrong; I love the Harry Potter books, but when they were first published I was already in my twenties, so I didn’t grow up with them *laughs*

Who is your favourite author?

Jane Austen, hands down.

What book should everybody read at least once?

One Hundred Years of Solitude, by Gabriel Garcia Marquez.

Where do you get your inspiration from?

I like observing people in the streets (not to be mistaken with stalking) and get inspired to write about what their lives would be. I also get inspiration from my life and things that happen to me.

Do you plan to publish more books?

Yes, indeed I am working on the second book in the Little Nani series. I’m also writing both contemporary short stories and horror stories; the latter will be published under the pen name Rosa Storm, so they get separate from my children’s books.

What else do you do to make money, other than write? It is rare today for writers to be full time…

I am a private English teacher and work as a translator sometimes.
