What We Saw by Ryan Casey
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
There were some parts of this book that reminded me of the mini-series, Taken. The small town, the hidden stories, the secrets and of course Liam and Adam who stumble on more than they expect to. In a way, it might seem logical that the boys see what they see. Each is burdened with some kind of emotional trauma that may manifest into something more exciting for the sake of adventure. For the sake of the story, logic has very little to do with what happens to the boys and the other characters.
For the most part, I liked the story and the writing. The only thing that holds me back from giving the book a full 5 stars is that the dialogue seemed forced in some sections and at some points, it felt like the author was forcing words onto the page just to connect the dots. But these were minor bits and if you get past this, it is a wonderful story that my book club members and I enjoyed.
Would I recommend this read? Oh yes, definitely.
