OB Power of Three – Maggie Harryman – Author Interview

Tell us a bit about your family.
I have two children in college—a boy and a girl.  They are completely wonderful human beings.  My husband, their father died three years ago very suddenly when they were in high school.  Both have come through stronger and more appreciative of the fleeting nature of life.
What is your favorite quality about yourself?
I would say I’m an optimist and most of the time, very joyful.
What’s your favorite color?
Red
What is your least favorite quality about yourself?
I can get a bit panic stricken if I don’t watch it, but I’m pretty good at reeling myself in.
What is your favorite quote, by whom, and why?
“Watch your thoughts; they become words. Watch your words; they become actions. Watch your actions; they become habit. Watch your habits; they become character. Watch your character; it becomes your destiny.” Lao Tzu
I really believe in the power of our minds to create our realities.  Having said that, action is powerfully important.  This quote really speaks to both.
What are you most proud of accomplishing so far in your life?
I would say I’m most proud of helping my children grow up to be interesting, joyful and engaged human beings.  After that, definitely publishing the novel and having almost everyone whose read it, genuinely enjoy it (even total strangers!!).
What’s your favorite place in the entire world?
My current home here in Sonoma County.
How has your upbringing influenced your writing?
I grew up in a very strict, Catholic household.  My parents were from Ireland, and I think the stories they told and the lyrical language they spoke influenced me.
