Author Interview – HH Fowler

Tell us a bit about your family. Intimately, I have a small family – having only one sibling. I’ve been married nine years and together, my wife and I have one son.
What is your favorite quality about yourself? I’ve been told that I’m a very good listener.
What is your favorite colour? I can’t say for sure…lol. But I’ve been known to wear conservative colours.
How has your upbringing influenced your writing? Well, having been a Christian for most of my life, a lot of what I write are messages of inspiration and hope. Whether one is a Christian or not; I try to capture the essence of human experiences. We all have our own personal trials and if through careful characterization and realistic scenarios, I’m able to uplift and to encourage my readers, then my objective have been obtained.
How long have you been writing? For as long as I can remember…lol. Seriously? I wrote my first novel about thirteen years ago – when I was twenty-one. Before then, I’d written numerous of plays for my sister and her friends to perform at our local theatre.
What inspires you to write and why? People. They are the most interesting and the most complex creatures in our universe. Endless stories can be told just from the life of one individual. Think about that for a moment.
What genre are you most comfortable writing? Urban Christian Fiction. I’ve tried my hand also at crime fiction, which somehow flows into certain scenes of my main genre.
Do you intend to make writing a career? Most definitely. At 80 years old, I still plan to be letting my imagination run wild…lol.
How did you come up with the title? The popular saying – “Boys will be Boys”, created a picture in my head of church-going men. How that came about? I don’t know…lol. I’ve also heard that, “Men will be Men”, and from those sayings a concept was formed. It is as if one expects certain innate behaviours to be exhibited from the male species – more so from ‘unredeemed’ men. I’d asked myself a question and sought to answer it in a three-part novel. Could church-going men avoid the sensual pitfalls of what is considered ‘innate’ of all men? Hence, the title, “Church Boyz”.
Who designed your cover? Derek Murphy – an American fine artist and surrealist painter living in Taiwan.
What are your goals as a writer? To entertain, to inspire, and to illuminate. (Hopefully, keeping these ingredients throughout my next 100 novels).
Have you included a lot of your life, even friends, in the plot? Well, for me, a little. For my friends, much of it! And that is all I’m saying on the subject…lol. However, most of the plot is pure imagination.
How important do you think villains are in a story? Very important. They heightened the suspense of the plot.
Can we expect more books from you in the future? Certainly so! I’m currently working on a new series – “Church Gurlz”, set for release in 2013.
Are you reading any interesting books at the moment? Yes. “The Retreat” – by Dijorn Moss.
What do you do to unwind and relax? Watch Family Feud…lol. I love playing games with my 2-year-old son. Really, I rarely relax like I should. Vacations are the best and I take those 2 – 3 times a year.
