If you could travel in a Time Machine would you go back to the past or into the future? The future. The past is well documented and holds few surprises but the future is uncertain and I’d love to know the fate of the human race. How much of the world remains? How do we survive without oil? Do we wi-fi our minds directly to our ereaders and our visual media centres? Is there non-calorie chocolate that’s palatable? Of course I’d have to be able to return – just in case!
If you could invite any 5 people to dinner who would you choose? Stephen King so I could see how his mind works and maybe get some tips.
Roger Federer and Maria Sharapova but I wouldn’t sit them together as they would just talk to each other about tennis all night. I’d love to know what drives them to compete at such a high level after so much money and success.
Tony Blair so I could roast him over theIraqdebacle.
David Bowie but only if he’d perform after pudding.
If you were stranded on a desert island what 3 things would you want with you?Pictures of my family ; A solar powered ereader full of books including one called ‘Desert Island Survival – Do it in style’ ; A Swiss Army knife.
What is one book everyone should read? The Exorcist – Not the kids though. I read this when I was fourteen and didn’t sleep well for days.
If you were a superhero what would your name be? Captain Sarcastic. I’d prefer Superman but that’s taken and if the suit fits and all that…
If you could have any superpower what would you choose? To fly. To have the freedom to go anywhere without a car and feel the air in your face and see everything below you would be unbelievable.
What is your favorite flavor of ice cream? Pistachio, although it’s not that popular and I always struggle to find it. What’s that about?
Night owl, or early bird? Night owl. I can’t stay in bed in the morning either but I’m unable to enjoy rising early due to feeling tired as I went to bed too late. It’s a vicious circle really.
One food you would never eat? Fish eyes. Is that a food? Okay, then monkey brains. No? How about whelks? Yes? Whelks it is.
Pet Peeves? People imposing themselves on others. You don’t have to read this, you know?
Skittles or M&Ms? M&Ms. I Love the peanut ones.
Please tell us in one sentence only, why we should read your book. I need to eat. No scratch that. You won’t be able to put it down.
Any other books in the works? Goals for future projects? I’m working on the plot for the second book in the Ethan Justice series, Other current projects include:
A Product of the System – A coming of age story set in a dystopian alternative past.
Who is Samantha Harding? – A crime thriller with a sci-fi twist.
Goals for future projects are to focus on finishing them and get them out there on the shelves (ipads, Kindles etc.…)
Tell us your most rewarding experience since being published. Good reviews – every time! If somebody genuinely tells you that they couldn’t put your book down then you need no further reason to continue writing.
What’s one piece of advice you would give aspiring authors? Don’t give up when your work gets harshly critisised. Use it as the driving force to prove that person wrong. Later you’ll either realise that they were right, in which case you’ll be a better author for it or you’ll prove them wrong by your success. Either way you’ll win in the end.
If you could be one of the Greek Gods, which would it be and why? Zeus. Not because of a need to be in charge but so that I’ve got the strength to deal with the others.
When you were little, what did you want to be when you “grew up”? A clown. Became an accountant before being an author so I guess I nearly got my wish.
Can you see yourself in any of your characters? Always in one of every book. I struggle to take the ‘me’ out of characters but I think this is typical of many authors.
If you were a super hero what would your kryptonite be? Anybody crying. I don’t know what to do with them. I feel terrible but never know the right thing to say and they can’t tell you what they need because they’re making no sense.
What do you do in your free time? What free time? Where do you find that? No, seriously, I like to spend time doing anything at all with my family.
If someone wrote a book about your life, what would the title be? His Heart Was In TheRight Place.
